It’s known that South Barrington is a great place to live, but this great place measures just 6.9 square miles, and 4.52% of that is water.  What this means is that a lot of greatness is packed into a relatively small area.  All of the water in the area is just a reminder of how beautiful and amazing this area is, especially when you consider its proximity to Chicago.

In 1976, Alexander Stillman donated land in South Barrington to the Audobon Society of Chicago.  The Society created the Stillman Nature center, which is a prairie preserve.  The village is also understandably proud of the fact that 45 private lakes and ponds contribute to the charm of the area.

According to the 2000 census, there are 1,147 households in the South Barrington area and 1,060 families.  A remarkable 47% of the households in the village have children under 18 and 86% are married. The area definitely sells itself on being great for families and for those that want to get away from the big city life.
